Citizens Win Victory for the Greyhounds
Humane advocates won an initial victory on August 9, 2016 when the Seminole County Board of Commissioners approved the Greyhound Protection Act. This ordinance takes effect on March 1, 2017, and will:
- Ensure that greyhound injuries at Sanford Orlando Kennel Club are reported to the public.
- Require greyhound trainers to provide information on the fate of greyhounds that leave the track.
- Eliminate a special interest loophole that exempts racing greyhounds from County animal licensing and inspection laws.
This victory is the direct result of an all-volunteer grassroots campaign that collected signatures from more than 14,000 local voters.
In the coming months, we will announce new ballot initiatives to help greyhounds. Until then, we would like to thank the following organizations that endorsed the Seminole County Greyhound Protection Act.
